New GBC MultiMedia Group

I am writing this blog to share how excited I am about my first video camera training session. On Tuesday after work I met at Andy Wilson's house for a training session on how to use Andy’s video camera. (Hopefully, the church will have it’s own in due course.) It was very educational and insightful and I am glad I have such an opportunity to learn new technical stuff. I love the fact that it is very simple but at the same time some of it can be complex. I had an overview of the professional Sony NXcam video camera, with 20x optical zoom. I have done some videoing and editing before—actually quite a lot—but that has always been with a small home video camera. I actually do a lot of projects at work using videoing and editing as evidence for our clients base learning curve.

My first training with Andy improved my knowledge on the basics of a professional camera. I gained a lot of knowledge about professional videoing in a very short time-frame. I would say Andy is a good tutor and is very passionate about multimedia. I am very excited about this training and looking forward to the practical session with him this Sunday morning (21 November). My interest has grown and I can't wait to gain experience in professional videoing, editing, and web.

If you are interested in becoming involved in this group, there are many different and exciting things you can do; you are not only limited to one skill or experience, you can be a cameraman, assistant cameraman, web editor and a sound editor, interchanging roles where needed. As the group gets more experienced, we will really increase our quality and reduce the work-load of multimedia on Andy. The audio visual and web ministry is very important and from just the first few hours of my training, I discovered how smooth and easy making a video recording can be.

It will be great to make videos and share them with the public on how great God is, using our hidden skills in so many ways. I might not be an IT guru but I would say most people love being creative one way or the other. Multimedia is a very creative sector.

May God bless this group so we can all learn from each other, encourage each other, gain new ideas, share ideas and minister to each other and the world through media; showing the sermons, events, baptisms, weddings, testimonies of how great God is as He transforms our lives. I will enjoy sharing this with the world through this excellent way of communication—Multimedia!

As the world is getting more technology versed, being involved in the multimedia group is an inspiration for me—that alone makes me want to inspire somebody else. I am looking forward to being an assistant cameraman, cameraman, video editor and web editor and embarking on these, praying and hoping other people out there get inspired—just like me.

(Church Magazine Ed’s Note: I know that it is sometimes easier for Andy to train one-to-one so that he can adjust the training to each person’s capabilities and time availability, however there are also plans to have group training sessions in the future—so watch this space!)
